Do’s and Don’t’s of Online Dating

Online Dating is not exactly a new concept now. There are few people who have not heard of it, or even taken part in it on some level. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a newbie, there are some things you should and should NOT do.

DO’s

DO be yourself. This is particularly important if you actually intend to meet someone from a dating service at some point. They may be more than a little put-off if you are entirely different than you have portrayed yourself.

DO be respectful of the people you meet. People will treat you with respect if you treat them with respect (most of the time).

DO be honest about your intentions. Leading someone to believe that you want one type of relationship when your intentions are otherwise will cost you other relationships in the present and the future.

DON’T'S

DON’T use the anonymity and relative security of the web to be abusive, judgmental, or rude.

DON’T ever send money to anyone you’re never met, or ANYONE in another country. In fact, it’s generally a bad idea to send anyone that you don’t know money.

DON’T settle or get impatient and give up. If you are not looking for a certain type of relationship, don’t enter into that type of relationship. With persistence, you will eventually find what you are looking for.

And finally (and most importantly):

DO be careful and use common sense at all times. Relationships formed over the internet are no different than those formed in person. Don’t let the vastness of the web change your behavior.

Of course this is not an all-inclusive list, but there are some good tips here to get you started. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and start looking.
